MCHENRY — Austin Doerr shot a 78 to win low medalist honors and lead Northern to the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference golf championship in convincing fashion Tuesday at The Wisp.
With Doerr’s strong play on the difficult course, Northern won in convincing fashion with a team score of 371. Southern was second with a 384, followed by Keyser with 433, Frankfort with 456, Mountain Ridge with 461 and Fort Hill with 493.
Southern’s Evan Friend finished runner-up with an 89, followed by Northern’s Mike Rogula and Southern’s Brady Donaldson with 93s. Keyser’s Charlie Abernathy posted a 94 and Northern’s Camen Feller a 98.
Northern improved its overall record to 17-1 and will play again Thursday, at Rocky Gap, against Mountain Ridge and Fort Hill.
Jackets win match
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Claude Drummond shot a 41 and Aaron Freeman had a 42 to lead a balanced scoring attack that helped carry Moorefield to a victory over Petersburg and East Hardy in high school golf Tuesday at Valley View.
Moorefield had a team score of 176. Petersburg was just two strokes behind with a 178 and East Hardy was third with 187.
Petersburg’s Seth Thompson and East Hardy’s Taylor Warren tied for low medalist honors with 38s. Petersburg’s Cameron Oates shot a 39.
Moorefield and Petersburg will join Keyser for a match on Thursday at Valley View.
