Three more students charged in Northern Middle bomb threat

MCHENRY — Three additional arrests have been made in connection with the Feb. 12 bomb threat at Northern Middle School, according to Maryland State Police.

A previous arrest of an eighth-grade student at the school was made within hours of the incident.

“After conducting numerous follow-up interviews of faculty and students, investigators have filed charges against three male eighth-grade students of the school. All three were charged with conspiracy related offenses related to the bomb scare.

“After consultation with the Department of Juvenile Services, the juveniles were processed at the McHenry Barrack and released back to the custody of their parents,” said a barrack spokesman.

Troopers and Garrett County sheriff's deputies responded to the school on Feb. 12 after a student located a note written on a bathroom wall indicating there was a bomb in the school that would detonate.

Students and faculty were evacuated to Northern High School and a search of the school revealed no device. Early in the investigation, police arrested an eighth-grade student in connection with the alleged threat, charging him with making a false statement of a destructive device.
