<New> Midland store sells winning lottery ticket

07/05/11 — MIDLAND — The Mega Millions ticket that won $250,000 in the July 1 drawing is the biggest winner sold at RG’s Store #04 in Midland in the nine years that Lisa Crushong has been the manager there, she said Tuesday.

The winning numbers were 12, 17, 30, 35, 47 with a Mega Ball of 26. The buyer of the Midland ticket matched all the numbers except for the Mega Ball, thus winning the second-tier prize. Someone in Virginia matched every number and won $105 million.

Crushong said everybody in and around the store in this small Georges Creek town was buzzing about the ticket.

“A lot of people think it is a 21-year-old from Lonaconing,” she said. Because of the long holiday weekend, Tuesday would have been the first day for the winner to claim the cash at lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Maryland Lottery Commission had not announced that a claim had been made.

“We sell a lot of tickets,” Crushong said. “Now maybe we will sell more. About a year ago we sold an instant scratch off worth $1,000.”

Crushong said she thinks the store might get an award for selling the ticket, but wasn’t sure.

“Somebody from Baltimore drove all the way up here to check our machine and make sure everything was proper,” Crushong. “I guess that’s a lot of money to give away.”

Crushong said she thinks the winning numbers were randomly selected.

Spokesmen at Mega Millions or the Maryland Lottery did not respond immediately to emailed questions from the Times-News.

Mega Millions will be drawn again Tuesday night. The jackpot is $12 million.
