Jerry Robinson, on tractor, above, and Bobby Joy clear a drainage ditch during a recent cleanup day at Ellerslie Community Park, while Scott Williams and Renae Sisler, below, spread mulch in a play area. “This project is just the first step in a focused effort to bring the local park back to its former beauty,” said Ellerslie Improvement Committee founder and cleanup day organizer Cindi Emerick. “Since we are a new group, support for this initiative had to come mostly in the form of private donations.” Several local businesses also contributed services, including Sacco Mulching, Ranker Lawn Care and Jerry O’Baker Trucking. The committee was formed last fall and has identified 15 projects that should be completed within the next two years. With a cost of close to $130,000, the group is seeking funding. The Ellerslie Athletic Association is also finalizing summer fundraising details and plans to use revenue to further sports programs and park improvement initiatives.
