CUMBERLAND — Two men jailed earlier in the month on burglary and theft charges in the Mount Savage and Frostburg area were charged with additional crimes Monday, according to a C3I spokesman.
Cole Michael McCormick, 20, Mount Savage, who was caught after an incident on Slabtown Road in which a 74-year-old man and his grandson were assaulted, has been indicted by the Allegany County grand jury on 18 counts of burglary, 16 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, 13 counts of theft, 13 counts of conspiracy to commit theft, one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault related to break-ins at six homes and six vehicles.
McCormick, who was already placed on a $50,000 bond, was awaiting a Monday appearance before a circuit court judge on the new charges.
Investigators with C3I had executed search warrants at McCormick’s residence as well as the residences of two of his juvenile accomplices and recovered a large amount of stolen property.
“Some of these items are very valuable,” said C3I Investigator Jon Dudiak.
Separately, the Frostburg Police Department charged Randall James Kelley II, 32, Frostburg, in another series of thefts other than those that caused his original arrest.
Kelley was initially nabbed after his personal identification card was found inside a burglarized vehicle that was parked outside his residence.
Additional charges are forthcoming against Kelley following a search of his residence by Frostburg officers who recovered a significant amount of stolen items.
Kelley was still incarcerated on a bond of $10,000 when the new thefts were discovered but was released from the detention center Monday, according to online court records.
Officials continue to try to identify the victims of the crimes and are holding items such as GPS units, cell phones, jewelry, car stereo parts, cameras, backpacks, antiques and ticket stubs from past major sporting events.
