FROSTBURG — Camp Hope Inc. is accepting applications for free home repairs during the summer of 2012. Camp Hope has been providing repairs to area homeowners for the past 35 years.
Each spring, more than 125 homeowners apply to be one of the 60 homes that will be selected to be repaired. Since its inception in 1977, Camp Hope has performed repairs to more than 1,800 homes in Allegany County. Repairs that can be rendered include porches, ramps, interior/exterior painting, minor plumbing and flooring.
According to Camp Hope Administrative and Projects Director Charles Yarnall, campers are skilled adult leaders using teenage youth groups for the bulk of the labor. More than 40 churches send their youth and adults to Camp Hope each summer to help out with the repairs. All funds are raised privately. Each youth group raises its share of the finances used to support the program. The campers are housed at Frostburg State University and are fed each evening at different churches throughout the area. Camp Hope is an outreach ministry of the Frostburg United Methodist Church.
Applications for home repair are available by calling 301-689-0444 by April 15. They will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Completed applications will be reviewed and an appointment will be set up for a Camp Hope staff member to visit the home and review the repairs needed.
