MOUNT SAVAGE — Jim and Vicky Benjamin and their family have not let up in the search for their two 8-month-old German shepherd pups that disappeared from their Mile Lane property on New Year’s Eve.
“We’ve been up and down the streets in all hours of the night and driving in the middle of the night, searching every day,” said Vicky regarding the nonstop efforts to locate Molly and Rosie, friendly 70-pound pups with black muzzles and tan bodies.
A few possible sightings have been reported to the couple in recent days. Molly was believed to have been seen Saturday in the Upper Sunnyside Drive area of Woodcock Hollow Road. Rosie was also believed to have been seen the same day in the Washington Street area of Frostburg. The Benjamin family responded to the sightings but was unable to locate the missing dogs that were purchased from a breeder in Oldtown about six months ago.
The dogs were last seen outside the family residence at about 11 a.m. Dec. 31. The family enjoyed breakfast and returned outside a half hour later but Molly and Rosie were nowhere in sight.
“They either got lost or somebody stole them. They just very quickly disappeared,” said Jim Benjamin.
Molly was wearing a red collar and Rosie a blue collar before they disappeared.
The Benjamin family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the missing pets. The family also welcomes anonymous information and is only interested in bringing the dogs back home.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the animals may call 301-268-8190 or 301-268-0639.
Efforts to locate the missing pups include searches being led by Jodi Sweitzer, a volunteer with the Allegany County Animal Shelter, according to Vicky Benjamin.
Sweitzer said early Monday afternoon that she is checking sightings and working with other volunteers and area residents in the search. She said updated information is being posted on the Queen City Rescue Facebook site and the We Love Ducky Facebook site.
