Wisp skier killed

MCHENRY — A 38-year-old Ohio man died Friday after he struck a tree while skiing at the Wisp Resort, the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office said.

Curt Robert Winkelvoss of Upper Arlington was reportedly skiing down the Squirrel Cage run when he lost control and struck at least one tree, police said.

Winkelvoss was treated at the scene by Wisp Ski Patrol members and taken to Garrett Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after the 1:30 p.m. accident.

Southern Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.

Friday’s incident is the second fatal skiing accident at the Garrett County resort this year. On Jan. 19, James Jung-Jin Park, 40, of Rockville lost control and ran into trees on the same Squirrel Cage slope while skiing with friends.
