Corriganville resident charged with taking money from Mountain Ridge Band Parents

Volunteer concession worker allegedly stole almost $16,000 over three-month period

CUMBERLAND — An Allegany County grand jury recently issued an indictment leading to charges being filed against 61-year-old Carol Lee Myers of Corriganville with a single count of theft scheme between $10,000 and $100,000.

The indictment was issued as a result of an investigation by Frostburg Police and C3I into allegations that Myers had stolen money from the Mountain Ridge Band Parents Association.

The Band Parents Association, a nonprofit organization, runs concession stands at different Mountain Ridge High School athletic events as a fundraiser for the band.

The Mountain Ridge band director discovered several discrepancies while reviewing the financial records and reported his findings to law enforcement authorities.

The resulting investigation determined that Myers, a volunteer concession worker, allegedly embezzled more than $15,900 from the organization from September 2011 through December 2011.

Myers is free pending her next court appearance.
