MEYERSDALE, Pa. — Authorities in Somerset County are seeking a Salisbury man in connection with the alleged assault of a 38-year-old Ridgeley, W.Va., woman early Sunday on Shaw Mines Road in Meyersdale.
Pennsylvania State Police Tfc. Jeffrey Urban reported the assault occurred at 12:20 a.m. near Industrial Park Road in Summit Township. Scott Lee Merrill, 36, allegedly struck the victim in the head and face several times before he pushed her out of the vehicle and onto the ground.
The victim was reportedly lying outside the truck before she was assisted by Duane Hay Jr., 31, of Meyersdale, who heard her cries for help.
Hay assisted the victim into his vehicle, which was also occupied by Rebecca Walker, 28, of Garrett.
Merrill, who had driven away, reportedly re-turned and drove his pickup truck into Hay’s pickup. The Hay vehicle was pushed down a slight embankment where it nearly flipped over, police said.
Merrill drove away, and his whereabouts are unknown, according to state police at Somerset.
It was not known if the victim sought medical treatment.
An arrest warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Douglas Bell charging Merrill with four counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count of simple assault and a charge of harassment, according to Pennsylvania court records.
The court documents logged Sunday indicate that Merrill has brown eyes and gray or partially gray hair.
Maryland court records indicate that Merrill formerly resided in Cumberland and was convicted in Allegany County in May 2010 of se-cond-degree assault.
