Woman found dead in house fire

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. — The body of a Feathers Road woman was found in the burned-out remains of her residence late Sunday morning.

Forty-one-year-old Bobbi Hanlin was found deceased at the scene of the 10:49 a.m. fire, according to Sgt. Chris Leatherman of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation along with the cause of Hanlin’s death.

Leatherman is conducting the investigation along with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The identity of the victim was disclosed to Leatherman by the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office at Morgantown.

Damage to the dwelling was extensive. Much of the structure collapsed into the basement where the victim was discovered.

Hanlin was the only member of her family at home when the fire occurred, police said.

Numerous volunteer fire departments responded, including Elk Garden and Kitzmiller volunteer fire departments and Elk District Ambulance.

Units responded after a passerby reported the fire in a 911 call.

Mineral County Medical Examiner Chris Guinn also responded to the scene off state Route 42 between Elk Garden and Kitzmiller.
