KEYSER, W. Va. — Alleged destruction of property at the McDonald’s Restaurant and an encounter with police later in the day near the same area led to the arrest of a Keyser man Monday.
Chaz A. Jackson, 23, was charged with trespassing, destruction of property, obstruction of justice and assault of a police officer after he was taken into custody at mid-afternoon Monday.
Jackson remained jailed Tuesday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta on $3,500 bond.
Keyser Police said officers were called to McDonald’s shortly before 9 a.m. Monday after Jackson apparently became upset and allegedly broke a glass counter display and an iced-tea dispenser. Police said Jackson’s vehicle had been towed the day before by the business and Jackson was seeking McDonald’s to pay the towing fees before he became upset.
After allegedly causing the damage, Jackson left the area and was observed at mid-afternoon placing an electronic item that was reported stolen from Rite Aid in a trash Dumpster there.
Jackson ran about 150 yards before he was arrested and taken into custody. He allegedly kicked an officer during the arrest.
Police said West Virginia State Police and the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department assisted and charges are pending by state police in the Rite Aid incident.
