City woman’s death being investigated

Resident found in tub

CUMBERLAND — The death of a 54-year-old city woman at a Maryland Avenue residence is being investigated by Cumberland Police and the C3I Unit.

The victim, who was not identified by police, was found unconscious and fully submerged in a bathtub when city police and fire units responded to a call to the residence at 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

“The initial investigation revealed no sign of trauma to the body or obvious cause of death,” said a police spokesman.

The body was sent to the Maryland State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Cumberland Fire Department paramedics began emergency treatment while transporting the victim to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

C3I investigators also responded to the scene, along with an evidence collection technician with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.
