ANNAPOLIS — The owner of the Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort hopes to have a casino open in late May with 558 slot machines and 10 table games.
Tim Cope, president of Evitts Resort LLC, told a state commission on Thursday the company also plans to begin construction on new meeting space at the facility near Cumberland around the time the casino opens.
Cope said he hopes the new meeting space will be open to the public in the late fall to make up for some of the meeting space being used to create the casino.
Cope also said there will be slightly more meeting space at the facility than before.
The casino could ramp up to 850 machines or more if business dictates further expansion later, Cope has said. Last week, hundreds of people waited in line with hopes of landing a job in the casino.
The job fair was aimed at prospective dealers, but the casino accepted applications for all positions.
Those picked to be dealers will attend a 12-week, unpaid school, and most dealers will initially be trained in blackjack.
