BURLINGTON, W.Va. — William Ridge, 38, of Burlington, has been charged with grand larceny for multiple thefts around the area. West Virginia State Police responded to Ridge’s residence after he was allegedly seen on a surveillance video stealing more than $4,000 from Knobley Farms Store.
Police said that Ridge was identified by local residents as traveling door-to-door through New Creek attempting to sell stolen merchandise. Some of the items that police discovered were reported stolen from a victim in Burlington and sold in New Creek. The items included a mitre saw, reciprocating saw and hammer drill. They were recovered and returned to the victim.
Upon Ridge’s arrest at his residence June 14, officers discovered two 42-inch, flat-screen televisions that appeared to be new and one of them had the serial number removed. Police said Ridge could not provide a receipt or proof of purchase for the TVs and that both he and his wife are currently unemployed.
Upon further inquiry with the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department, officers discovered that the sheriff’s department had investigated two TV thefts earlier in the day, one from Burlington and one from New Creek. Both TVs were seized as evidence once it was determined that the stolen TVs matched the ones at Ridge’s residence.
State police are still attempting to locate additional items reported as stolen, including:
• An antique mahogany radio case,
• A Hitachi mitre table saw,
• An antique blue and white water basin,
• A yellow Dewalt twin-cylinder air compressor,
• Two black and gray Brad nail guns,
• A turquoise Makita skill saw,
• A red Milwaukee right-angle drill,
• Three Craftsman battery-operated drills,
• A gray Rotozip zip saw,
• A large sum of wrapped statehood quarters,
• A wooden butcher block with Sunbeam brand knives,
• Vintage postcards dating from the 1900s,
• A soft-back book titled “Awkward Family Photos.”
Ridge remains incarcerated at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta on charges of grand larceny from Mineral County as well as a burglary warrant from Hampshire County. Several additional warrants are pending from Mineral County as well. Ridge is also currently on probation for a burglary charge stemming from 2010.
State police requests anyone with information on any of the above listed items to contact Tfc. S. B. Huffman at the Keyser detachment at 304-788-1101.
