I found this note in my Facebook messages tonight from Alex. I guess he’s hoping it will help keep Cumberland a supportive AFS town.
We are still seeking homes for a soccer playing boy from Chile, a soccer playing boy from Japan and a sweet, studious girl from Thailand.
Hey,
My name is Alexander Evertz and I was an AFS German exchange student in Cumberland 2008/09. I went to Allegany High School and joined Marching Band and the soccer team during my stay. It was much fun and I still remember all the great experiences.
I met a lot of kids I am still in contact with. This year at Easter I came back for about two weeks to see everybody again, and this summer four of my best friends from Cumberland visited me and I had the opportunity to show them German lifestyle, culture and history.
During my exchange year I bonded to my host family. I am really thankful that they gave me the opportunity to stay with them and I hope they didn’t regret their decision to host an exchange student. We keep in touch through phone calls, E-Mails, letters, Facebook, and postcards.
It always makes me happy to hear from the other side of the world. My last phone call with the Hartlaubs brought up that AFS couldn’t find any families in Cumberland to host this year.
Please think about hosting a student, it isn’t just an experience for the student it is also a forever friendship for your family. The exchange student brings his own allowance and if you have any problems with the student, AFS will help you.
I hope you deliberate about whether to give your heart and home for an AFS exchange student. I’m sure my hostmom will answer any queries (correct mom?) 301-722-4779
Greetings to my family, friends and teachers in my other hometown- Cumberland
Yours,
Alex
