After reading the paper (“At public meetings, fights over prayer drag on,” Nov. 23 Times-News, Page 1A) about the national campaign to stop prayer by government officials at meetings, I have several questions for atheists and any others that feel it is illegal.
Why are atheists afraid of God if God does not exist? If you hear the word God, Jehovah, Allah, Jesus, Mohammed, how does that affect you? Does God scare you so bad you need to restrict his name from being used in public? If separation of church and state is the law, I never heard of separation of God and state?
Some say the church is not allowed to guide their people on how to vote on political agenda’s under separation of church and state. Is this separation of church and state a two-way street?
If churches cannot say or preach against any political policy that they believe is wrong, then how can the government tell people of any religion what to believe if they believe in praying before a meeting? I never heard of a law that says all elected officials must give up their faith and belief while in office.
There are people of religious churches that believe in marriage of one man and many women but in the U.S. it is illegal.
The new so-called Marriage Equality Act that just passed in Maryland doesn’t include them. They are not equal, or there are not enough political votes gained by including them!
I could never understand we have freedom of religion and freedom of speech but not for everyone and only at designated places and time set by the government.
If God has no place in government, what kind of government do we have? When anyone has to go to court and they are asked to swear to tell the truth, who are you swearing to? Are you swearing to tell the truth to the government?
You know “the government of the people, by the people, and for the people”? People lie, cheat, and steal, so is that who we are ask to swear to tell the truth? We just had an election of our top government leader. We all heard the political ads.
Both candidates told us the other side was not telling the truth. We elect a liar either way. Do not ask me to swear to tell the truth to a government that lies to me. We need God in our government! Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?
The government changes titles to be politically correct. An illegal alien is now undocumented citizen, Christmas vacation is now winter vacation, and Christmas tree is a holiday tree. To be politically correct, excuse me I’m not praying I’m just having a chat with my best friend. Amen

Town of Westernport needs a police force and a curfew
Since the consolidation of Bruce and Valley high schools the town of Westernport rapidly deteriorated from what was once a quite respectable community to a community in a decline in residents, and along with that came a collapse in local government due to lack of knowledge and bad decisions that set the town of Westernport back 60 years.
One bad decision was to give up their police force, and with no constant visual law enforcement it has created an open range for drug dealerss, addicts, thieves, drunks and speeding vehicles that choose to ignore our city laws and speed limits and have totally disregard for the safety of the citizens who are on the streets, especially the children who are like deer, you don’t see them until their in front of you. -
