Electing a Republican president with the current congressional Republicans now in office would not be in the best interest of lower and middle class Americans.
Most of these Republicans served during the two terms of George W. Bush, when Republicans controlled both Congress and and the White House.
These same individuals turned an inherited budget surplus into a deficit. They voted seven times to raise the national debt ceiling. They stood idly by while George W. Bush raided $1.33 trillion from the Social Security Trust Fund.
This was more money than all administrations over the previous 32 years combined had taken from this fund ($830 billion).
The Economic Policy Institute estimates as many 2.4 million American jobs were lost to China between 2001 and 2008. Our trade deficit with China grew 26 percent in 2000 to 69 percent in 2008.
The past performance record will not lead the United States to economic recovery.
Republicans in Congress have a history of being against any legislation that would benefit lower and middle class Americans. They voted against Social Security, Medicare, and now are against health care reform.
Not one Republican Congressman in the Senate or House of Representatives voted yea to pass health care reform. They said they did not know what the bill contained. That is their job, to read and understand a bill casting their vote.
How can any President accomplish the promises made to the American people when congressional leaders of the opposing party declared their first priority was to ensure this was a one term President?
