Blue sky and marvelous fall colors, it’s Frostburg State University Homecoming 2012! After much planning and tireless work, the Frostburg Community welcomed thousands of alumni and friends home to the mountain city.
As I look back over the activities, I am very proud to report that there were no serious incidents and our law enforcement partners were here in strength to keep our visitors and local community safe.
Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, C3I, and Frostburg State University Police, worked in conjunction with Chief Royce Douty and the men and women of the Frostburg City Police like a well-oiled machine.Frostburg Area Ambulance assisted in responding quickly to any requests and stood by for various activities throughout the weekend.
I would like to close by thanking a very dear friend, President Jon Gibraltar. We have come a long way together and I am very proud of the close working relationship we share for our community.

Housing project will have bad effect on property in this area
I am writing to you to voice my opposition to a low income housing project that has been proposed for construction on a tract of land on Pine Swamp Road in Mineral County, W.Va. I am a registered voter and resident of Mineral County and live in the New Creek/Pine Swamp area.

School board should be doing better job with less money
The Allegany County Teachers Association (ACTA) board of directors recently submitted a letter to the editor asking the Allegany County commissioners to fully fund the Board of Education’s budget request for the upcoming fiscal year (“Commissioners should fund school board request,” April 29 Times-News).
