I have lived in the Georges Creek area for over 50 years. Until last week I had not experienced just how far the integrity and honesty of some of the Creek people has decayed.
I mistakenly left my purse sit on a picnic table right outside the window of the McDonald’s in Westernport on Oct. 5 at about 5:15 pm. I didn’t realize it was not in the vehicle and left it there.
When I realized that it was missing it had been a period of about 15 to 20 minutes before we returned to retrieve it. No one had seen anything and it was right next to a big window. We even checked out trash containers and walked along a couple paths that were used by local people.
Now what type of individual would take the purse and not take it inside the business to try to find the owner? There was some money in it which, I would have freely given to someone if they really needed it.
When the thief looked in the purse they found numerous personal items that meant nothing to them but were my own personal property. There were keys that will cost me a lot of money to replace and cards that I had to cancel and get replaced and still need to replace more.
I have found myself several times planning on getting something I carry in my purse, only to be disappointed again because I realize that something else has been lost.
Some of the items cannot be replaced, like pictures and mementos; they were not of any interest to anyone except to me. I feel I have been violated and disappointed that the thief feels it necessary to not even allow the personal items to be located.
Ladies, please be very careful with your purses. Having my purse stolen has proven to be a very stressful, intimidating and expensive experience and I would not want anyone to have to go through it.

Freedom isn’t exactly what he thinks it is
In the June 2 Times-News, R. Steele Selby (“Just how free are we?) defines freedom as “the capacity to do whatever he or she wants to do” and asserts that this definition is “most likely nearly universal.”

What Maryland calls the Fair Share Act isn’t fair at all
The Fair Share Act was passed in 2009. This law allowed for service fees to be part of the collective bargaining process.
The law does not mandate that service fees be negotiated, it simply provides that they can be. -
