The Maryland Dream Act is nothing but a giveaway of taxpayer funds to illegal aliens.
And yes, when you let illegal immigrants pay instate tuition rates you are spending taxpayer dollars to subsidize their education — and this at a time when Marylanders are asked to pay more for everything and make do with less.
How dare the state ask us to subsidize college education for illegal aliens?
Gov. Martin O’Malley wanted to ensure Hispanic votes for Democrats so at the urging of Casa de Maryland he signed this bill into law.
It is outrageous to ask us to pay for education for illegal aliens when all of us are having a hard time making ends meet. And remember their status does not changes, which means they have no chance to getting any legitimate job after graduation.
When you are in this country illegally you are not entitled to work. If they have had job before, they have done so illegally. This act does not change their legal status. They are still illegal aliens.
Based on the experience in California, where now 1 percent of the student population is composed of illegal aliens, the number of illegal immigrant students in Maryland could quadruple within two years, lifting the annual cost to the state from about $778,000 to $3.5 million.
The added cost to taxpayers would come from offsetting lower tuition rates for illegal immigrants at community colleges with taxpayer funds.
“I think it’s safe to say that it’s certainly going to cost taxpayers a lot more than Maryland projected, and the costs are going to increase exponentially, every year. That’s the message we’ll be taking to voters between now and November,” said Del. Neil C. Parrott (R-Washington County).
This is not an investment in “their” future as supporters want you to believe, it is a taxpayer subsidy for those who are illegally in this country — in short a reward to lawbreakers, thus encouraging more of it.
Remember, every one of these students has broken the law and is eligible for deportation. They and their parents do not contribute to the state — they take from it.
Under federal law, states are only obliged to provide basic services such as emergency health and K-12 education. Anything beyond that must be provided at U.S. taxpayer expense.
Just because there’s an absence of a legal prohibition on in-state tuition does not mean it is ethical since it still encourages illegal aliens to remain in the country.
If Marylanders do not vote down this bill, they will find their own children competing with illegal aliens for seats in our colleges and universities, the cost of colleges will rise, as the legislation forces private institutions to absorb the loss of income from out-of-state tuition.
This is a lose-lose situation for the state and its taxpayers. It will increase your taxes, and cost of higher education for your citizen children.
Remember this is all about subsidizing those who have no legal right to be in this country. In short they are lawbreakers.
So vote NO — against the law on Question 4 on Election Day.

Town of Westernport needs a police force and a curfew
