This letter is in response to GySgt Milton Davis, USMC (Ret.) of Keyser, W.Va., and his letter "How soon we forget" of Jan. 6.
Gunny, I got out of the Marine Corps as a staff sergeant in 1980 after serving nine years.
I read your letter and wanted to assure you that in our household and those of my extended family and those of my friends, you, sir, and those veterans just like you, are not forgotten nor will you ever be forgotten.
I’ve had relatives from one of my grandfathers, who served in World War I to various uncles and cousins who have served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. My father served in the U.S. Navy and I've had brothers in both the Navy and the Air Force.
I had one uncle who served somewhere at your side with the Marines at the Chosin reservoir.
All across this country are families just like mine and yours and believe me; they will never allow any veteran’s service to be forgotten.
I make it my duty to shake the hand of every veteran I see, both inactive and active, to shake his hand and to thank him for his selfless service to our country.
At this time allow me to give you a hearty “OORAH” and a big Semper Fi!
