I have seen signs stating there was a “war on coal” during the past presidential election. But who is waging this war on coal? Not the president.
Coal production has been decreasing since natural gas production has been increasing. If you want to see coal production increase, wage “war on natural gas.”
For the energy companies, natural gas production is the way to go. Fewer emission laws, less of a risk of injury or death to the natural gas worker, easier to transport and just plain cheaper to produce.
Coal mines are not the safest place to work, especially in non-union mines. Cost to extract the coal is not cheap. And coal is handled many times in transporting and unloading.
Natural gas production done by “fracking” has a nasty track record. But big tax money is what the politician has his eye on. Those of us who live in the country will never get natural gas piped to our homes.
Natural gas being produced is now beginning to go foreign countries and exporting will increase. And natural gas production only produces few temporary jobs, actually damages local infrastructure and the risk of contaminated drinking water is all to present.
Be sure of this, the EPA wants fracking since it is “clean” and the lobbyist for the gas and oil companies will make sure their “political investment” pays off.
Something most people do not think about, coal (deep mined) and natural gas comes from beneath our feet. Fracking weakens the rock beneath our feet. In the end, what will we have left to stand on? But natural gas will come to end since it is finite, not infinite.
Then coal production will be back in “full swing.”Coal too, is not infinite. It has an end. Then what? The “horse and buggy” may make a comeback in the not-too-distant future.
Now for the “poor losers.” The people voted and Romney/Ryan lost the election, bottom line. Those who are still bemoaning their losses, please get over it and move on with life.
Just driving around the area, I see lots of Romney/Ryan campaign signs still up. It is time to work together to get this country back on its feet.
But the divided Congress will see that does not happen. The “Republican losers” will not allow it.
And now there are those with petitions wanting their states to “peacefully” secede from the United States. For the secessionist, there is an old saying, “America, love it or leave it.”
And for the Republican Super-PACs and other big money Romney/Ryan supporters, they made a really bad investment with little or no return on their monies.

Town of Westernport needs a police force and a curfew
Since the consolidation of Bruce and Valley high schools the town of Westernport rapidly deteriorated from what was once a quite respectable community to a community in a decline in residents, and along with that came a collapse in local government due to lack of knowledge and bad decisions that set the town of Westernport back 60 years.
One bad decision was to give up their police force, and with no constant visual law enforcement it has created an open range for drug dealerss, addicts, thieves, drunks and speeding vehicles that choose to ignore our city laws and speed limits and have totally disregard for the safety of the citizens who are on the streets, especially the children who are like deer, you don’t see them until their in front of you. -

I really had to chuckle when I read a recent comment someone made in a northeastern publication: “I’d like to suggest that Congress make a tiny change in our Second Amendment that would more accurately reflect the Founding Father’s intent (to wit): “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear muskets, shall not be infringed.”
