I am writing in objection to the stated sentiments in the article: “Maryland Religious leaders support Marriage Equality,” published in the Time-News on March 5 (paid advertisement, page 3B).
An implication in the first paragraph is that many “faiths and denominations” that are not listed in these columns are also promoting same-gender marriage.
This is a stain on the reputation of the churches in the greater community of Western Maryland, churches that observe all of the scripture given by God.
The term “Marriage Equality” probably was coined in an effort to make this sound so wonderful and/or to cloud the issue because, being a “new” term, it will not be understood by many earnest, trusting Christians, who would not agree.
Marriage was instituted by God to be between one man and one woman, and there can be no equality in other types of unsanctioned unions, which are all condemned by our Holy Bible. Also, there is no room in the church for politics or the government.
The reason for “heartfelt disagreement” on this issue is that many people will be lead into unrighteous behavior by the affirmation of the listed clergy and their congregations.
In Daniel 12:3, we read, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” Clergy bear a greater responsibility to teach and preach moral adherence to God’s Holy Word.
As Christians, we believe II Timothy 3:16: “All scripture is God-breathed (inspired) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Quite frankly I’m sick of the constant bashing of same sex marriage, I’m a heterosexual with enough morals and common sense to see that what the gay community’s asking for isn’t anymore then basic equal rights.
