CUMBERLAND — This is in urgency that I write, because the health reform bill that is about to pass has abortion on demand approved at the expense of the taxpayer. It has no conscience cause to protect the medical workers who have a conscience against the taking of the innocent lives of the unborn. It is unconstitutional to take life, for in the Declaration of Independence every American has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are only as strong as the weakest leak in this society. No country can survive that kills its youngest members.
The innocent unborn is not a choice, but a life. They are unable to speak for themselves and it is incumbent on those of us who can to defend life, not terminate it. The distressed mother is given abortive care; this is not health care. She becomes at high risk for cancer, suicidal ideation, post abortive stress syndrome, sterility, infection, and addiction problems, relational and other diseases. She has to carry the loss and the guilt.
Once one is conceived one has the right to life. It is within the power of this government to mandate monies to take life, it surely can provide care to the mother and unborn baby. Instead it seeks to provide monies to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood stands to take in $11 billion. In 2009 alone it took in $349 million in tax funding. For that, 305,310 babies lost their lives.
For those of us who believe that we are endowed by our creator to inalienable life, it is an abomination to take the life of the innocent and unborn. We have a moral and civic duty to protect those who cannot speak up for themselves. For the president and those who are to serve, it is un-American to take the lives of its citizens, rather than serve them.
The poor mother who is distressed is preyed upon for monies instead of supported. She is not told the truth, given ultrasound, alternative care and follow-up care. What is tragic about this whole health care bill is that it does not consider the will of the people who, at approximately 72 percent, respect life. It does not take into consideration those who are affected by abortion in the long term, the parents, families and society as a whole.
Our congressman, U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, can be reached at (301) 724-3105. He would like to support us for life and liberty and the freedoms that are constitutionally every man and woman and child’s, not just for a select few, but for all.

Not in the Bible, but the Communist Manifesto
President Obama has hit a new low. By promoting his reasoning for hiking taxes on the rich at the National Prayer Breakfast, he diminished the seriousness of his proposals and manipulated Jesus’ teachings for his own political purposes. How pathetic.

Argument for same-sex marriage is superficial
I am writing in response to a letter by Ian Stafford entitled, “Equal standards on marriage should be applied to everyone” (Feb. 3 Times-News).
The first thing I noticed about the article is the title. It appeared to be a Gov. O’Malley talking point repeated by his supporter to reframe the issue and promote his radical agenda. -

You’ll have to be rich to breathe Md. air if they begin taxing it
Let me see Marylanders, can you think of any more ways our elected officials can raise taxes in Maryland?First there was the flush tax to save the Chesapeake. Then there was sales tax raised from 5 cents to 6 cents on the dollar. Then we had toll fees at the Bay Bridge go up. Then we had car registration fees increase, along with vehicle tag prices increase.

Spending on non-academic projects causing the problem
Mr. Long’s poignant comments regarding school closings were good (“Is not a school more than just a school?,” Feb. 1 Times-News), however, he missed the sole reason for the closings — that the Garrett county Commissioners and their leader are too committed to adventure sports and relative extravagant non-academic ventures.
