BEDFORD, Pa. — The Grand Illumination Ceremony at Omni Bedford Springs Resort on Sunday went awry when two horses attached to a sleigh dragged their owner and injured two other people, including his daughter.
Ernie Alwine was flown to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, where he was listed in stable condition Sunday night following the 5:49 p.m. incident, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The horses became startled when a band started playing, and two adults jumped from the moving sleigh after an employee was able to slow down the horses, police said. One of the adults was treated at UPMC Bedford for minor injuries. The owner’s juvenile daughter also had minor injuries, police said.
The owner of Misty Haven Carriage in Davidsville was trapped beneath the horses and sleigh for several hundred yards.
Police were unable to provide any additional personal information concerning the victims.
