SPRING GAP — An early-morning fire Wednesday that destroyed a vacant house at 13614 Oldtown Road is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The 4:25 a.m. incident at the two-story brick building owned by Freda Minnick caused a loss estimated at $40,000, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Ryan Chapman.
No one was injured in the fire that originated in the first-floor area and was discovered by a passerby.
Forty volunteer firefighters from District 16, Oldtown, Baltimore Pike, Bedford Road, Flintstone, LaVale, Bowling Green, Clarysville, Patterson Creek and Paw Paw responded upon alert by 911 emergency centers in Allegany and Mineral counties. The fire was controlled by firefighters within an hour of their arrival.
