KEYSER, W.Va. — Mineral County residents will be served by both a new county commissioner and sheriff following Tuesday’s general election.
Republican Jerry Whisner upset incumbent Commissioner Cindy Pyles with 59 percent of the vote, according to complete but unofficials results tallied by elections officials as of 3 a.m. Wednesday. Whisner garnered 6,310 votes to Pyles’ 4,372, which was about 41 percent.
Jeremy Taylor, also a Republican, beat out Sheriff Craig Fraley by a narrower margin at 53 percent.
Taylor brought in 5,721 votes to Fraley’s 4,978, or about 47 percent.
Magistrates David Harman, Republican, and Sue Roby, Democrat, retained their seats. Challenger Damon Tillman, Republican, had close to 30 percent of the vote. Harman was top vote-getter with 36 percent and Roby followed with 34 percent.
