Oakland residence damaged in blaze

OAKLAND — Fire that originated in a basement ceiling of a Silver Knob Road residence Sunday remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The 2:57 p.m., fire at the residence of Charles Harsh at 1487 Silver Knob Road caused damages estimated at $10,000 to the two-story wood frame and $5,000 to its contents.

An estimated 20 volunteer firefighters from Oakland and Deer Park responded upon alert by the Garrett County 911 center.

The fire was discovered by the owner and was extinguished by the time first units arrived at the scene, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Deputy Fire Marshal Jamie Rodeheaver.
