KEYSER, W.Va. — On Tuesday, Mineral County Board of Education members unanimously voted to place Karen Wegener as the principal at Keyser Primary School and Mary Racey as the principal at Keyser Middle School for the 2013-2014 employment term.
A delay in construction, however, could cause a later opening of the new primary school, members said.
Racey is currently the principal at Keyser Primary Middle School.
Mineral County school personnel voted in December to grant existing service personnel and teachers priority on filling positions at the new Keyser Primary School and at the renovated Keyser Middle School.
The board voted in December to close Keyser Pre-K/Head Start and Keyser Primary/Middle School at the end of the 2012-2013 school year barring a delay in construction.
The board also unanimously approved a modular home construction project for students enrolled in the carpentry program at the Mineral County Technical Center.
The board also approved a $25,000 line of credit for the project.
“It’s something 10, 15, 20 years down the road they can ride by and say, ‘Hey, I built that.’ It’s a good project,” said MCTC instructor Jay Dolly.
The project will require three semesters to complete instead of the two semesters it normally takes, according to Dolly.
The home will be sold in the spring of 2014 and will be the third house that was sold by the MCTC in the last seven years.
“It’s great. I like that (Dolly) did this and took this on,” said Board President Kevin Watson.
