CUMBERLAND — At least 15 people called the Allegany County 911 Center on Friday morning after a tractor-trailer narrowly missed hitting the Mullaney Building at 13700 McMullen Highway, a dispatcher said.
No one was injured in the 9:36 a.m. incident, but a fuel tank was leaking, which prompted the response of the Allegany County Hazardous Incident Response Team.
Benjamin Pyles, 30, of Lost City, W.Va., was driving the 1996 Freightliner south when the truck drifted off the roadway and struck a tree, according to Maryland State Police. Pyles refused medical treatment and received a citation for negligent driving.
Bowling Green and Cresaptown Volunteer Fire departments responded along with Allegany County Fire Police for traffic control. The Freightliner was disabled and required several hours of work to get it removed, police said.
Units cleared the scene around 1 p.m.
The 911 center also alerted Allegheny Power, Verizon and State Highway Administration.
