Pa. man charged with stealing vehicle at Naves Crossroad

CUMBERLAND — A Uniontown, Pa., man was arrested Sunday morning shortly after he allegedly stole a vehicle from the Sheetz parking lot at Naves Crossroad. The suspect also reportedly stole a truck in Pennsylvania that he abandoned near Rocky Gap Road.

Cumberland Police responded to a vehicle theft complaint at the Sheetz location on Bedford Road at about 10 a.m. — at about the same time a witness was following the suspected stolen vehicle on Interstate 68 near the Harrison Street ramp to the interstate.

City police officers located the vehicle on westbound I-68 near Kelly Road where they took 33-year-old Jason Eric Bevans into custody without incident.

Charged with theft up to $10,000, motor vehicle theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and disorderly conduct, Bevans remained jailed Monday on $45,000 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending bail review in district court.

The victim at the Sheetz store told police that the vehicle began backing up as she approached it. The suspect then drove away toward the interstate.

Bevans is believed to have stolen a Toyota truck in Pennsylvania that he later abandoned near Rocky Gap Road prior to the incident at the Sheetz lot.
