Police seek convenience store robbery suspect

CUMBERLAND — An armed suspect robbed the Circle K convenience store on East Oldtown Road early Wednesday and then forced the clerk to accompany him outside the store before he ran away.
The incident occurred at about 4:26 a.m., prompting Cumberland Police Department to the business that was known formerly as Dairy Mart.
Investigators with the C3I Unit said a lone white man entered the store shortly after 4 a.m., displayed a sharp metal object and allegedly demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect instructed the clerk to remove cash from both cash registers and place it in a plastic bag.
The suspect then forced the clerk to leave the store with him and walk down an alley adjacent to the store. After a short distance, the suspect forced the clerk to the ground and ran from the area. The clerk returned to the store and called 911.
With the assistance of deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 from Maryland State Police, a search was conducted but the suspect was not located.
Police said the suspect was described as being in his 20s, 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches tall and of thin build. He was wearing a black long-sleeve T-shirt, faded blue jeans and a black ski mask.
Investigators reviewed the store’s video surveillance and obtained photos of the suspect.
Anyone with information regarding the case can call Cumberland Police at 301-777-1600 or the C3I Unit at 301-777-0326. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Allegany/Mineral County Crime Solvers at 301-722-4300. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
The investigation is continuing by Cumberland Police and C3I.
