WILLIAMSPORT — Approximately 100 firefighters from Washington, Allegany, Frederick and Montgomery counties responded to a Monday morning five-alarm blaze in Williamsport.
Deputy state fire marshals are investigating the fire that occurred at 110 N. Conococheague St. in a
three-story, wood-framed structure that contained the L&J discount liquor store, one occupied apartment on the first floor, and four vacant apartments on the second and third floors. The occupant escaped without injury after she smelled the odor of smoke. She was assisted by the American Red Cross.
No injuries were reported during the incident that began at 7:18 a.m. A preliminary value loss for the structure, originally built in 1900, was estimated at $500,000.
Units from Morgan and Berkeley (W.Va.) fire departments assisted with controlling the blaze.
