I watched a great youth tournament last Monday at White Oak Lanes. High School coaches were concerned that their teams in the middle of the season needed some practice as well as something to improve the team spirit.
The Baker team format proved successful on all counts. Each team consisted of two girls and three boys where each member bowls two frames in each game. Bowler 1 bowls frames one and six, bowler 2 bowls two and seven, … etc. Three blocks of four games are bowled on different lane pairs. In each block each team bowls two games at their own pace on one lane then two games on the other one of the pair. Total pinfall after the three blocks decides the top four teams that then compete head to head in semi-final matches.
The top finisher bowls the fourth finisher and the second and third finishers bowl in the other semi. Winners of these matches are decided by two out of three games. The champions are determined by two out of three game wins between the semi-final winners.
Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
