The cold weather will soon be here to stay along with the ice and snow. Bowlers need to be a little more careful with their bowling equipment. Shoes must be kept dry to prevent sticking on the lanes — an investment in shoe dogs may be in order. Just don’t forget to remove them prior to your approach on the lane.
I’ve talked about care of your ball before. Remember, the worst condition for your ball is to have it kept for a long period of time in a warm environment then be exposed to a very cold temperature for three or four hours (or longer). At warm temps, plastic expands and in the cold it will contract. The outside shell of the ball is not stressed in a uniform warm environment, however when exposed to the cold it shrinks. The shell insulates the inner part of the ball so that part doesn’t have enough time to contract with the cold — so the shell may be stressed enough to crack.
Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
