This weekend will be the final days of USBC’s local association’s annual championship tournament. All of the five squads (2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday) will be full for these final days.

One of the key factors that distinguish top bowlers is their consistency in their release of the ball. Rolf Gauger in "How Super School improves your game" published one of the best articles on a consistent release in (Bowling This Month, Vol. 8, No. 10, October 2001). The technique is to insert the thumb as far as possible (after inserting the fingers) then press the web of the thumb against a fairly sharp edge of the ball’s thumb hole and pull the thumb out approx 1/8 inch. This procedure lets you feel the weight of the ball at the base of the thumb held there by the finger pressure. The actual ball release is very clean and eliminates thumb problems normally incurred with the knuckle.

Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
