Howsare leads area with near-perfect 298 game

Jeremiah Howsare bowled an honor score 298 game in his 743 set at White Oak Lanes and was the area’s top bowler for the week. Shane Nickleson was next, rolling 711/268. Dick Sites scored a 290 game in his 687 set.

Buck Lease was highest at The Bowler, scoring 716/265. Dave Yates followed, rolling 687/232.

Rodney Helsley was highest for the week at Wilson Lanes, bowling 710/289. Bob Greene was next, scoring 702/248.

Ralph Knieriem’s 676/246 was the top mark at Sherwood Lanes. Ryan Knieriem was next high, rolling 624/238.

At Rainbow Lanes, Adam Braithwaite’s 651/265 was the top score for the week followed by Steve Capaldi’s 649/234.

Mike Brobst’s 745/279 was the top score in the PBA Experience League at White Oak Lanes. Don Parsons and Joe Mullenax were next high, rolling 721/248 and 611/247 respectively.

Dawn House was the area’s top lady bowler for the week, scoring 638/223 in the Appalachian League at The Bowler. Crystal Uhl was next high at that center, rolling 604/255.

Alice Monahan’s 581/211 was highest at Sherwood Lanes. Anna Durst was next, rolling 521/178.

Rainbow’s Katie Pownell bowled 578/210 for that center’s weekly high for the ladies. Olive Thompson was next, rolling 549/218.

Michele Hitchens’ 570/224 was the top ladies’ score at White Oaks. Felicia Deremer was next high, rolling 567/207.

Kim Hannas bowled 536/181 for the ladies’ high at Wilson Lanes. Pat Gwizdale was next, scoring 525/189.

Clyde Norris was the area’s top senior bowler for the week, rolling 589/231 at The Bowler. Senior Brad Deter bowled 554/204 at White Oak Lanes.

Youth bowler Scottie Brown bowled 692/256 at White Oaks and was the area’s top youth. Andrew Folmer rolled 617/240 at The Bowler and Tyler Mansfield scored 598/208 at Rainbow Lanes. Amanda Greene rolled 583/226 at Wilson Lanes.

A number of bowling tournaments are on tap in the near future. The high school bowling teams have their Showcase Tournament Saturday, Feb. 21 at White Oak Lanes. The following Sunday, Feb. 22, the annual Scotch Doubles tournament will be held at The Bowler starting at 11:30 a.m. Walk-ins are permitted.

The Western Maryland USBC Bowling Association’s third annual Open Championship Tournament will be held at Rainbow Lanes in Keyser, W.Va. on Feb. 28 and March 1, 7-8. Entries close midnight on Feb. 21. Entry forms are available at your local bowling center.

  • Lease’s 792/269 week’s high

    Buck Lease scored a pair of 700’s during the week including the area high of 792/269 at The Bowler. Travis Walters scored a big 289 game and 736 set and was next high.

  • Smith rolls 300 game, Coughlin 700 set

    Troy Smith rolled another perfect game scoring 695/300 in the Thursday Night Mixed League at White Oak Lanes.

  • Greene’s 788/299 week’s top score

    Bob Greene rolled a near perfect 299 game and 788 set for the week’s top score in the local area. Greene also scored a 747 set that same evening.

  • Evans, Williams roll 300

    Shawn Evans in the County League at The Bowler rolled a perfect game in his 698 set. In the AARP Seniors League, Paul Williams also scored a perfect game in his 705 set. Too bad that league in not sanctioned, missing out on national recognition plus personal awards.

  • Davis perfect, Gable leads area, Richards top senior

    No scores from The Bowler this week. Snow kept me from picking them up. (Should have gotten them early on Tuesday.) I will include them in next week’s column.

    Peyton Hartman put together a triple-double Thursday evening in leading Keyser to a 12-point, 61-49, win over hosting Hampshire.

  • Yates’ 813/300 best of blockbuster week

    Some kind of a record was set for the week in local area bowling centers. An 800 and four 300s plus five scores of 280-plus were bowled in the local area. A very large number of games with 10 or more strikes.

    AJ Bishop bowled an honor score 298 game and 737 set in the Tuesday Night Mixed League at White Oak Lanes.

    John Wolford rolled 756/276 in The Bowler’s County League and was the area’s top bowler for the week. Tom Fairgrieve was next scoring 721/278. Steve Shook in the Tuesday Strikers League bowled a 284 game in his 702 set.
