Corbin scores 738/300 at Wilson
This bowling season is demonstrating that the younger bowlers typically are posting the top scores in most leagues. That fact also reflects the national trend. On the PBA tour, the older bowlers (even the Hall of Fame members) are having trouble winning televised events.
This week's listings show that one of our local stars can still get it done. John Corbin scored his first 800 (802) set and his first 300 game at White Oak Lanes on April 9, 1980. That set was White Oak's first 800 series and was the first in the local area in 14 years. Richard Barrick of Keyser rolled the state of Maryland's first 800 set (an 804) at The Bowler in 1966. Corbin was a member of the U.S. team that competed in the Pan American games in 1978.
John's 738/300 was the top score at Wilson Lanes for the week and the next high score was a 729/249 bowled by his son, Clay Corbin. Clay also rolled a 723/276 during the week. Dave Greene at Wilson Lanes bowled a 287 game in his 706 set.
The area's top score for the week was a 754/258 bowled by Bobby Lannon at White Oak Lanes. Mike Sipple was next at that center rolling 712/268.
At The Bowler, Tim Yutzy was highest for the week scoring 752/258. Darren Durbin's 722/246 was next high.
Tim Chapman bowled 724/266 for Par-Matt's top weekly score. Teddy Inman rolled 685/268 for second place.
Larry Housel Jr. and Chris Opel were the week's leaders at Sherwood Lanes bowling 695/251 and 679/276 respectively.
JR Braithwaite rolled 651/246 and was Rainbow's leader for the week. Steve Kight's 599/224 was next high.
In the PBA Experience League at White Oaks, Chad Gable was highest bowling 601/211. Travis Walters and Jimmy Barrett followed, Travis rolled 583/222 and Jimmy scored 580/203.
Rachael Preston was the area's top lady bowler for the week rolling 628/215 at The Bowler. Crystal Uhl and Missy Yates were next bowling 619/226 and 618/215 respectively.
Par-Matt's BJ Riggleman scored 614/235 for the ladies' high at that center. Mary Liller's 535/202 was next.
Sandy Hott was Rainbow's top lady bowling 582/213. Pam Brinkman rolled 533/210 for second place.
Dee Thomas bowled 551/194 for the ladies' high at White Oaks. Jessica Patch was next scoring 548/184.
Wilson Lanes' Kim Hannas rolled 537/201 and Janine Buff rolled 531/177 for that center's top ladies.
Alice Monahan's 503/182 and Lois Rowe's 494/178 were highest of the Sherwood ladies.
Elwood Glass was the area's top senior bowler for the week bowling 618/218 at The Bowler. Senior, Nancy Glotfelty rolled 615/214 at Par-Matt Lanes. Rainbow senior Bob Walker scored 585/193 and at White Oak Lanes, and Bill Middleton rolled 523/196 and was highest of that center's seniors.
In youth bowling, Tyler DeVore bowled 686/276 at The Bowler for the area's top youth. Justin Smith rolled another big score at that center, 668/254.
At Sherwood Lanes, Wade Robinson bowled 588/212.
Amanda Greene scored 586/235 at Wilson Lanes. Charles Abernathy bowled 578/224 at Rainbow and Kevin Day bowled 565/197 at White Oak Lanes.
Good luck bowling and have fun striking out.
