Culver Design beats Madigan's Auto, 8-2

POTOMAC PARK — Trevor Moore had four hits and struck out nine to lead Culver Design over Madigan’s Auto in the first game of their semifinal best-of-three series Monday evening at the Hot Stove Complex’s Holler Field.

Culver Design broke open a 3-1 game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Moore drove in a run with a base hit, Dane Heavener had an RBI single and a pair of runs scored off of an error.

Moore finished with three singles, a triple and two RBIs. Garrett Crawford had an RBI and two singles and Colton Moreland doubled.

Madigan’s was led by Josh Wotring’s two singles and Kody Sliger’s RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. Its second run came with the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk.

Moore also had two walks. Josh Crawford relieved him in the sixth and finished with a strikeout and two walks. Sliger went the distance for Madigan’s, finishing with five strikeouts and two walks.

Culver Design and Madigan’s will play again Wednesday at Hamilton Field.

    Dane Heavner decided the entire American League Championship Series of the Hot Stove Playoffs with one swing Friday evening, lining a single past the shortstop in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Romney Rippers to a 3-2 win over Lakeview Auto Parts in the deciding game to put the Rippers into the finals beginning Monday,

  • Romney holds off Lakeview, wins 7-6

    The Romney Rippers squandered an early 5-run lead, but jumped back ahead in the fifth inning and got solid pitching over the final three innings to beat Lakeview Auto 7-6 at Holler Field and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Hot Stove American League Championship Series.

    Dane Heavener homered, Garrett Crawford knocked in five runs and Josh Crawford tossed a four-hitter to lead the Romney Rippers to a 12-1 win over the Ridgeley VFW Friday evening at Holler Field.

    American Insurance scored 13 runs and collected 12 hits over the final three innings and the late charge pushed the team to a 14-9 win over Young’s Unlimited/Cumberland Optimists and propel it into the second round of the Hot Stove Playoffs.

    Having to forfeit the first game due to lack of players and playing the second and third shorthanded, Romney Rippers were still able to advance to the second round of the playoffs by beating Madigan’s Auto Sales 3-2 Friday at Hampshire High School.

    Trevor Porter gave up only three hits and scored the eventual winning run in the fifth inning as the Cresaptown Eagles beat Kiwanis 3-2  Thursday to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
