Allegany roars past Southern, now 16-2

CRESAPTOWN — Haley Stankan tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 to lead third-ranked Allegany to a 9-2 conference win over Southern Friday at Carl Belt Field.

The Campers (16-2, 13-2 AMAC) will look to lock up a share of the conference title, and win the City League outright, when it hosts Fort Hill on Tuesday.

Stankan was backed by an eight-hit attack and the Campers were also aided by six Southern errors.

Haylie Harper hit two singles and knocked in two runs, and Bethany Landis had a double, single and an RBI. Estee Hixon and Bailey Ellsworth added RBI singles.

Alycia Horner had an RBI single for the Rams.

After the Rams got a run in the top of the first, the Campers countered with three in the bottom half. Allegany led 7-1 with a four-run third.

Southern (2-12, 2-11 AMAC) plays at Frankfort on Monday.



Thursday

Fort Hill 11, Southern 0

OAKLAND — A single walk was the only blemish in an overpowering performance by Fort Hill’s Cierra Miller as she no-hit Southern in an 11-0 win for the Sentinels Thursday evening at Southern.

Miller also helped spur a seven-run fifth inning by hitting a two-run home run, and added a single.

On the mound, Miller’s no-hit gem included 11 strikeouts and just one walk over five innings. The victory moved her personal record to 5-0.

Also part of Fort Hill’s 16-hit attack was Shari Beavers, with a double and two singles, and Destiny James, with two doubles. Lindsey Fisher, Kathryn Huber and Olivia Stanley had two singles.

Fort Hill (15-1) led 4-0 through four innings and put things away with a seven-run fifth.

Fort Hill hosts Northern and Southern (2-11 overall, 2-10 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference) plays at Frankfort on Monday.

CUMBERLAND — Madi Wilson hit a double and a single and the Fort Hill junior varsity team improved to 13-1 by beating the Mountain Ridge junior varsity team.

Allison MacIntosh added a triple and a single for the Sentinels, and Emily Anderson hit an RBI triple. Hannah Lowery hit a pair of singles. Courtney Koelker was the winning pitcher.

The Miners got a double and a single from Alexa Gallagher, a double from Amber Ravenscroft and two singles by Brittany Kidd.

Fort Hill plays Monday at Northern.
