Stankan, Alco blank Moorefield

CRESAPTOWN — Winning pitcher Hayley Stankan fired five hitless innings and Jenna Mathews homered as third-ranked Allegany rolled to an 8-0 victory over Moorefield Thursday at Carl Belt Field.

Stankan, staked to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, fanned eight of the first nine batters and finished with 11 strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Taran Rosenberger finished up with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Rosenberger, Hilary Lyons and Katie Alkire doubled and singled, with Alkire driving in a pair of runs, to lead an 11-hit Alco attack. Mathews hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Beth Szymanski added two singles.

Kristen Ball had a sixth-inning single to account for Moorefield’s lone hit.

Allegany (15-2) hosts Southern today at 4:30. Moorefield (8-13) visits Pendleton on Monday.

OAKLAND — Mariah James fired a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and only one walk to lift the Fort Hill jayvees to a 4-0 win over the Southern jayvees at Broadford Park.

Kayla Hutson led the Sentinels offense with a pair of singles.

Fort Hill will host Mountain Ridge today.
