CRESAPTOWN — Kelsey Robertson fired a three-hitter and third-ranked Mountain Ridge scored four runs in the final inning to blow things open and beat top-ranked Allegany, 5-0, Monday at Carl Belt Field.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Miners (12-1 overall, 12-1 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference). Allegany (14-2, 12-2), whose only losses have been to Mountain Ridge, had a five-game win streak snapped.
Robertson allowed only three singles, walked two and struck out six in the complete-game shutout. Allegany’s Hayley Stankan allowed only two hits through five innings. She finished with a six-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Stephanie Fazenbaker and Keri Bean had two singles and Danielle McGinnis a two-run single for Mountain Ridge.
All three of Allegany’s hits came in the fourth inning, but a 6-4-3 double play kept the Campers from scoring. Hillary Lyons, Jenna Mathews and Katie Alkire had the hits.
Scoreless through five innings, Mountain Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Bean.
Marley Nolan led off the big four-run seventh with a single. A one-out walk put runners on first and second, and a throwing error on a bunt by Lacey Hutcheson allowed two runs to score. After a fielder’s choice and a walk loaded the bases, McGinnis singled up the middle to drive in the final two runs.
Mountain Ridge plays Bishop Walsh today at Cavanaugh Field. Allegany visits Moorefield on Wednesday, with the jayvees playing at 4:30 and the varsity at 6.
No. 2 Fort Hill 5, Northern 0
ACCIDENT — Shari Beavers fired a one-hitter, struck out 12 and did not walk a batter as second-ranked Fort Hill blanked Northern for its 12th straight victory.
Beavers allowed only a first-inning single to Miranda Beasom as the Sentinels improved to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in the AMAC. Adria Lewis and Alyssa Yost had two singles.
Fort Hill took an early lead with two runs in the first. Destiny James singled and scored when Beavers reached on an outfield error. Beavers scored on a grounder by Lewis.
Lewis led off the third with a double and scored on a single by Yost to make it 3-0. It stayed 3-0 until the seventh, when Stanley and Cierra Miller smacked RBI singles.
Taryn Brenneman scattered nine hits, struck out six and walked two for Northern (3-8, 3-7), which hosts Keyser in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Fort Hill plays at Southern on Thursday, then hosts Mountain Ridge on Friday, at Long Field, in a battle of conference leaders.
Bishop Walsh 12, Turkeyfoot 2
CUMBERLAND — Ashley Turnbull had a big day at the plate, Bishop Walsh scored two runs in the sixth inning to invoke the 10-run rule, and Erin McGee pitched a three-hitter, scattering three singles to lead the Spartans over Turkeyfoot Monday at Cavanaugh Field.
Turnbull doubled and singled three times to knock in four runs. Becca Winner tripled and singled twice. Sophie Bambacus tripled, while McGee and batterymate Chloe Detrick both singled twice.
Trailing 2-0, the Spartans came alive scoring one in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Bishop Walsh (3-10) will host Mountain Ridge today, 4 p.m., at Cavanaugh Field.
Allegany 3, Frankfort 2
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Bethany Landis had two singles, Hillary Lyons doubled and Taran Rosenberger slapped a two-run single to lift Allegany past Frankfort on Saturday.
Allegany scored all of its runs in the second inning with two walks, a passed ball and Rosenberger’s two-run single. Savannah Hose hit a triple and two singles and Morghan Snyder doubled for Frankfort (7-9).
Hayley Stankan got the win, allowing five hits and three walks while fanning 10.
