Miners roll to 11th victory

Mathews hit wins for BW

FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge scored 10 runs in its first three at-bats and Kari Bean tossed six strong innings to lift the third-ranked Miners to an 11-1 win over Southern on Saturday, their second in as many days over the Rams.

Heather Shipe belted a double and single and knocked in two runs, and Marley Nolan smacked a three-run double for Mountain Ridge, which had only five hits but was aided by 12 bases on balls. Bean did not allow an earned run in six innings of work.

Lyndsey Glotfelty had two doubles and an RBI for Southern.

The Miners defeated the Rams 16-0 in five innings Friday evening in Oakland.

Mountain Ridge (11-1 overall, 11-1 AMAC) plays second-ranked Allegany at Carl Belt Field on Monday at 4:30. Southern (2-8, 2-7) hosts Keyser on Monday.



Bishop Walsh 9

CUMBERLAND — Anne Mathews singled over the outfielder’s head to score the winning run and lift Bishop Walsh over Hancock at Cavanaugh Field.

Sophie Bambacus, who started the eighth at second on the international tie-breaker rule, moved to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winner on the hit by Mathews.

The Bishop Walsh defense had double plays in the seventh and eighth innings to get out of jams, and both involved the catcher.

In the seventh, Becca Winner got a putout and an assist on a 1-2-5 double play. In the eighth, with Hancock runners on first and third and no one out, BW catcher Chloe Detrick caught a foul pop and caught the runner off first base for a double play. Ashley Turnbull’s running catch in left field retired the side.

Turnbull had a double and Erin McGee singled twice for BW. McGee combined with Winner for 12 strikeouts.

Brittany Moats had a double and two singles and Brianna Swisher two singles for Hancock.

BW (2-10) hosts Turkeyfoot on Monday.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Berkeley Springs jumped on Keyser early to win the first game, but the Tornado got another strong outing from Megan Anderson to win the second for a split of their doubleheader.

Anderson, a freshman, allowed five hits, struck out three and walked only one in gettng her seventh win. Carly Burns had all three of Keyser’s RBIs with a double and a single, and Kayla Aldridge added two singles.

In the first game, Berkeley led 8-2 early and Hesecker struck out 11 with only one walk for the win. Stotler hit a double and a single.

For Keyser, Taylor Haggerty had two singles and an RBI.

Keyser (7-10) plays at Southern Monday.

FROSTBURG — Maggie Wilson doubled and singled twice to lead Mountain Ridge past Keyser in junior vasity softball Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Field.

Amber Ravenscroft hit a triple and single, Liz Diamond, Kaitlyn Lemmert and Alexa Gallagher singled twice, and Shayna Sweitzer and Brittany Kidd smacked doubles for the Miners.

Lindsay Lancaster got the win. Keyser was held to three scattered singles.

Mountain Rige (8-2), which played at Southern on Friday, will host Southern today at Mt. Pleasant.
