FH stuns Mountain Ridge, 6-4

From Staff Reports

FROSTBURG — Shari Beavers and Adria Lewis highlighted a three-run third inning for Fort Hill by hitting back-to-back home runs to get the Sentinels going in a 6-4 win over previously unbeaten Mountain Ridge.

Beavers drove in a total of four runs on two hits, adding a single to her home run, and Lewis also added a single to her home run. Beavers and Lewis had four of the Sentinels six hits.

“The middle of our lineup really came through for us tonight,” said Fort Hill coach Mike Bittner, emphasizing Beavers’ and Lewis’ contributions.

Cierra Miller allowed 10 hits to the Miners, but also recorded 10 strikeouts and walked just two.

Danielle McGinnis hit three singles for Mountain Ridge, while Taylor Llewellyn and Keri Bean both added two. The Miners stranded runners in the bottom of the seventh after cutting the score from 6-2 to 6-4.

Kelsey Robertson allowed six hits and three earned runs, while walking four and striking out six.

Destiny James was credited with two fine defensive plays at third base that helped Fort Hill keep hold of the 6-2 lead.

“Fort Hill is a very good team and tonight was their night. It was a game between two evenly matched teams, and should make things more interesting in the area,” said Miners coach Martha Mauzy. Mountain Ridge, Fort Hill and Allegany all have one loss in area and AMAC competition.

Fort Hill (7-1, 5-1 AMAC) plays at Hedgesville on Saturday. Mountain Ridge (6-1, 6-1) plays today at Northern.
