FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge made the most of three hits and Kelsey Robertson chalked up another complete-game win in a 3-1 victory over Northern at Mt. Pleasant Field Wednesday afternoon.

The win keeps Mountain Ridge undefeated and sets up a battle of unbeatens today, at 4 o’clock, when the Miners (5-0 overall, 5-0 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference) host Allegany, which is 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference after defeating Hampshire 7-0 Wednesday evening.

Today’s game will be played at the Mt. Pleasant Field in Frostburg.

Mountain Ridge scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings in beating the Huskies in a pitchers’ duel between Robertson and Northern’s Taryn Brenneman.

Heather Shipe doubled, and Taylor Llewellyn and Lacey Hutcheson singled to account for Mountain Ridge’s only hits.

Danielle McGinnis walked and scored on Shipe’s double in the fourth. Hutcheson singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Llewellyn in the fifth, and Keri Bean walked, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.

Kaitlynn Fratz and Miranda Beasom had two singles and Katy Umbel and Emily Manges one single for Northern.

Fratz singled, stole a base and scored on Umbel’s single in the sixth. The run made it 2-1 at the time.

Robertson walked only two and struck out eight. Brenneman had five walks and five strikeouts.

Northern (1-3, 1-3) hosts Frankfort today.



Allegany 7, Hampshire 0

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Katie Alkire had three hits, including a two-run home run, and Hayley Stankan fired a three-hit shutout to keep Allegany unbeaten.

The Campers (9-0 overall, 7-0 AMAC) led 1-0 after three innings before blowing things open with a four-run fourth. Alkire’s two-run homer came in the seventh.

Alkire finished with a homer and two singles to lead a 12-hit attack. Haylie Harper hit two doubles, and Stankan and Taran Rosenberger had one double.

Stankan allowed three singles, walked three and fanned 11.

Logan Sonner hit two singles for Hampshire (3-7, 1-3).

Allegany plays at Mountain Ridge today, at 4 o’clock, at Mt. Pleasant Field in Frostburg. Hampshire hosts Keyser today, also at 4.



Frankfort 16, B. Walsh 1

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Allie Lantz had three singles and a double to knock in five runs and lead Frankfort a four-inning victory over Bishop Walsh.

Taylor Rice had a pair of singles for the Falcons. Savannah Hose, Kayla Tansill and Courtney Dolly also produced hits for Frankfort.

Anne Mathews tripled for Bishop Walsh and Sophie Bambacus singled.

Frankfort (5-6) will play today, 4 p.m., at Northern. Bishop Walsh (1-7) hosts Hampshire in a noon doubleheader on Saturday.

Mtn. Ridge 7, Northern 6

FROSTBURG — Sarah Hughes hit two singles and knocked in a run and Mountain Ridge rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to defeat visiting Northern.

Shayna Stowell and Ali Eller had singles and RBIs for Mountain Ridge, now 5-0. Maggie Wilson went the distance and struck out 11 for the win.

Kiersten Butler belted a double and two singles and knocked in a run to lead Northern. Becca Engle added a double and single.

Mountain Ridge hosts Allegany today, at Mt. Pleasant, following the varsity game.



Tuesday

East Hardy 13, Moorefield 3

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Lindsay Basye struck out 11 and allowed four hits to earn the win in a complete game as No. 8 East Hardy beat No. 13 Moorefield in six innings in Potomac Valley softball between two teams ranked in West Virginia Class A.

Beyond her pitching performance, Basye added a double and a single while scoring three runs. Molly Look finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run, and Brittany Perkins had two singles and a run scored.

The Cougars got out early with three runs in the first and four more in the second. They scored the final six runs in the sixth.

For the Yellow Jackets, Cassie Rinker had two RBIs on a double, and Crystal Simmons hit an RBI triple. Kayla Stickle singled and scored a run.

East Hardy remains undefeated at 5-0 and is 3-0 in the PVC. It will play Monday against Lincoln in the Glenville Invitational.

Moorefield (5-4, 5-1 PVC) plays today against Wahama in the Best of the Best Tournament in Buffalo, W.Va. Wahama is ranked 10th in Class A.
