Allegany’s first beats BW

12-run inning keeps Campers unbeaten at 8-0

CUMBERLAND — Allegany scored all 12 of its runs in the first inning as the Campers stayed undefeated by beating Bishop Walsh 12-2 in City League softball Tuesday at Cavanaugh Field.

Allegany scored it runs by amassing 17 hits in just five innings. Hilary Lyons tripled and singled for two of the team’s hits, and winning pitcher Hayley Stankan finished with two singles.

Stankan combined with Taran Rosenberger to strike out eight batters and allow four hits.

Bethany Landis wound up with a double and a single for the Campers, and Tiffany Watts hit a double.

For the Spartans, Ashley Turnbull doubled, while Anne Mathews singled twice.

Allegany (8-0 overall, 6-0 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference, 2-0 City) will play at Hampshire this afternoon at 4 p.m. Bishop Walsh (1-6, 0-5 AMAC, 0-2 City) plays today, 4:30, at Frankfort.

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Shari Beavers hit a triple, two doubles and a single to knock in four runs in the opener in helping lead Fort Hill to a doubleheader sweep of Frankfort Monday in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference play at Frankfort.

Adria Lewis also had four hits and knocked in four runs, all coming on singles. Cierra Miller had a double and a single to knock in one, and Olivia Stanley doubled, singled and knocked in a run as well. Brittany Hines singled twice and knocked in a run for the Sentinels.

Beavers got the win in the opener, giving up four hits, no earned runs, walking six and striking out 15.

In the second game, Lewis hit a home run for the Sentinels, a solo shot in the third inning, and Lindsey Fisher had three singles. Kathryn Huber had two singles, and Beavers, Miller and Stanley all knocked in two runs with singles.

Miller got the win in the second game, striking out nine, walking two and not allowing an earned run. The game was stopped after four innings due to darkness.

Fort Hill (5-1 overall, 3-1 AMAC) will host Southern Thursday, 4:30 p.m., at Long Field. Frankfort (3-6, 1-5) was scheduled to host Keyser Tuesday.

CUMBERLAND — Emily VanMeter pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts to lead Allegany to a convincing win over Bishop Walsh Tuesday in jayvee action.

Kara Hotchkiss hit a triple and a single, and Lindsay Linaburg hit two singles for the Campers. Allegany was also aided by 16 walks.

Maria Ritchie singled two times and scored the Spartans’ only run. Morgan Ruppenkamp drove in Ritchie with a single.

Bishop Walsh will play tonight at Frankfort.
