Alco slams Frankfort

CRESAPTOWN — Winning pitcher Stephanie Dawson smashed a grand slam in a six-run fifth inning to power the Allegany past Frankfort, 6-1, in junior varsity softball Thursday evening.

Ashley Grapes hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth to put Frankfort up 1-0. Allegany began its big inning with singles by Kara Hotchkiss and Stephanie Brown. After two walks, Emily Hedrick singled home the go-head run, and Dawson followed with her homer to make it 6-1.

Miranda Shank had three singles and Dawson a homer and double for Allegany. Jordan Dunn had two singles for Frankfort.

Allegany plays in the F Club Classic today at Northcraft Field. Frankfort visits Mountain Ridge today.

    Alycia Horner scored 13 points and Heidi Welch and Alli Shaffer had 10 as fourth-seeded Southern defeated fifth-seeded Fort Hill, 56-36, in their Class 1A West section playoff game Tuesday at Mountain Ridge.

    Freshman Annah Brittingham had Fort Hill off-balance all day long, allowing just two hits in spoiling the Sentinels chance to repeat as the Maryland 1A Champions with a 2-0 shutout Saturday at Robert E. Taylor Field.

    Shari Beavers struck out 15 and allowed just three hits in her third consecutive shutout, getting the Sentinels in position to defend it’s Maryland 1A State title with a 4-0 win over Pikesville Tuesday at Bachman Park.

    Defending Maryland Class 1A state champion Fort Hill has been down this road before, and the Sentinels have every intention of following the same path to the same prize as the Maryland Public Schools Secondary Schools Athletic Association state semifinals will be played today at Bachman Park (see directions).
