Brenneman keys Northern past BW

CUMBERLAND — Taryn Brenneman fired a two-hitter, struck out 14 and walked only one to spark Northern past Bishop Walsh, 4-0, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference softball game.

Brenneman aided her cause with two singles and one RBI. Jessica Baker belted a double, and Emily Manges and Miranda Beasom had two singles for the Huskies (1-3, 1-3). Emily Sisler drove in a run in a two-run seventh inning.

Alice Helmstetter and Erin McGee had singles to account for BW’s hits. Helmstetter and Maggie McGill had run-saving catches in the outfield.

The Huskies are now 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the AMAC. They will travel to Frostburg to play Mountain Ridge today. Bishop Walsh (0-4, 0-4 AMAC) plays Fort Hill at Northcraft Field today at 4 o’clock.



Mountain Ridge 12

Keyser 2

KEYSER, W.Va. — Kelsey Robertson scattered five hits and struck out 12, and freshman Taylor Llewellyn belted three doubles and a single to lead undefeated Mountain Ridge over Keyser.

Marley Nolan smacked two singles and Heather Shipe and Lacey Hutchenson doubled for Mountain Ridge (3-0, 3-0 AMAC).

The Miners scored three runs in the opening inning, and led 1-0 after 3 1/2 innings. Keyser scored both of its runs in the fourth.

Mountain Ridge hosts Northern in a conference game today at 4 p.m. at Glendening Field.

Keyser (2-2, 2-2) will entertain Tucker County on Thursday.



Petersburg 10

Hampshire 1

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Melissa Sharp tripled and singled for Petersburg, and the Vikings took advantage of 11 Hampshire errors to defeat the Trojans.

Jessica Hinkle doubled and Brittany George singled twice as the Vikings had two-run innings in the second, third and fifth, a single run in the sixth, and three runs in the seventh.

For Hampshire, Karisa Saville and Dana Veach hit doubles, and Saville added a single for a two-hit day.

Petersburg visits Moorefield on Thursday, while Hampshire (2-4) plays a make-up game today, 4 p.m., at East Hardy.

Bishop Walsh JV 2

CUMBERLAND — Tabbie Beasom fired a no-hitter, and Northern got on the board early and often in a win over Bishop Walsh.

Brittany Mallon hit a home run and a double, and Kristen Butler and Breanna Mallon hit two singles for the Huskies.

The Spartans will play Fort Hill at home tonight.

Moorefield 10 17

Pocahontas 0 2

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield needed just 10 innings to score 27 runs and sweep a doubleheader from Pocahontas County in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Kayla Stickley knocked in three runs with a double and a single as the Yellow Jackets won 10-0 in the first game. Jess Taylor went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Kristin Baugh had two singles and one RBI.

Samantha Markwood dominated the Warriors by striking out 16, allowing one hit and walking two in the win.

Moorefield scored nine runs in the first inning of a 17-2 win in the second game. Cassie Rinker had two singles, a double and three RBIs. Brooklyn Weese was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Baugh had a RBI single and three runs scored.

Brittany Ramos was 2-for-3 and Chelsea Gum hit an RBI single for Pocahontas.

Moorefield (2-2, 2-0 PVC) will host Tygarts Valley in a 5 p.m. doubleheader today.
