Calvary blanks CV, 4-0

Hartsock scores twice in Eagles’ second shutout

— CRESAPTOWN — Levi Hartsock scored a pair of goals and the defense recorded its second shutout in three games as Calvary Christian beat Cumberland Valley 4-0 in high school boys soccer on a hot afternoon at Liberty Field.

The Eagles wasted little time in getting on the board, as Hartsock scored after gaining control of a Cumberland Valley goal kick with 30 minutes left in the first half.

Brandon Kendall converted a penalty kick to give Calvary a 2-0 halftime cushion.

Hartsock, on a feed from Josh Snyder, made it 3-0 midway through the second half. Gavin Hart got the final score, with Justin Swogger getting an assist, with eight minutes to go.

Calvary led in shots, 12-5, and in corner kicks, 4-2. Goalkeeper Matt Dillow had three saves in getting the shutout. Kody Kipe had six saves for Cumberland Valley.

Calvary (2-1 overall, 2-1 Mason-Dixon Christian Conference) hosts Broadfording on Tuesday at 4:30.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Greg Kerns scored a pair of goals as Keyser rallied from an early deficit to defeat Petersburg.

The Vikings grabbed an early lead when Dan Alt scored on an assist from Isaac Martin just eight minutes into the match.

It remained a 1-0 game until Kerns got his first goal, off a pass from Aaron Tasker, with just under four minutes left in the half.

Jesse Hartman put Keyser (3-1) on top on a feed from Josh Bartlett with 14:37 remaining. Kerns tacked on an insurance goal, with Jeremy Gilbert assisting, to make it 3-1 with 9:39 left.

Keyser outshot Petersburg 28-5 and led in corner kicks 5-2. Corbin White made five saves in goal for Keyser. Garrett Willis was cited for an outstanding game in goal for Petersburg and finished with 15 saves.

Keyser will host Pendleton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
